As members of the Helensburgh Community Council, we’re here to represent our town’s residents and make sure their voices are heard. We’re a non-political group, established by government statute, and we’re dedicated to looking out for the best interests of our community.

We think it’s essential to have a clear vision for Helensburgh so everyone knows what we’re working towards. Our mission shapes our day-to-day operations, and our values guide us in everything we do.

Our Vision

To sustain and grow a successful, safe and caring community by representing and serving the best interests of those people who live or invest in Helensburgh.

Our Mission

Helensburgh Community Council is the local government level closest to the people.

We will use that strength to discover their needs and concerns and work together to see how they can be addressed using the resources of the community council.

Our Values

Positive Networking

Applied Expertise

Active Engagement

We will be reactive in resolving community concerns. We may not have the ability to solve every problem, but we can certainly connect people to the right person and give advice in doing so.

Helensburgh Community Council will work with and liaise with community groups in the area to benefit all.

We’re here to offer solutions to problems, not just to highlight them.
Using the council’s expertise, we will be proactive in community challenges, providing or supporting grounded solutions that support our vision.
We’ll listen to and work with all stakeholders within Helensburgh, from the people to the national government, to help sustain and grow our community.

Our diverse group of members is spread across the town, representing different backgrounds, ages, and experiences. We strive for a balance of male and female members, as well as representation from our retail sector and growing Naval community. Plus, we’ve co-opted a youth forum to make sure the younger generation has a say, too.

We hold open, public meetings once a month to discuss important issues, and we’re actively involved in reviewing Licensing and Planning applications. We keep an eye on our town’s infrastructure, advocating for proper maintenance, cleanliness, and the upkeep of roads and pavements.

We love supporting local groups and initiatives, especially those that focus on woodlands, parks, and our beautiful coastline. You’ll often find us participating in beach clean-ups or tending to the shrub beds in Colquhoun Square.

Promoting our town’s interests and tourism is another priority for us. We sponsor seminars, conferences, exhibitions, and festivals that showcase the best of Helensburgh.

We’re also keeping an eye on the bigger picture, as there are signs that central government may devolve more authority to local levels. If that happens, we’ll be ready to adapt and continue making a difference for our community.
